Just wanted to let you know that James McDonald will be speaking this Sunday at Harvest Christian Fellowship.
In my opinion, James is one of the most effective Bible expositors in the country today. His messages are always thoroughly Biblical and very relevant to the time we are all living in.
James is the pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago and is heard nationwide on his radio broadcast, Walk in the Word. James is a personal friend, and we have seen his faith shine even more brightly as he has been receiving treatment for prostate cancer in the last year.
It has been said, “Character is not made in crisis, but revealed,” and we certainly saw the depth of James’ commitment to Christ and His Word through this crisis. I know he will bring a powerful message that will bless you.
James will be joined by special musical guest Marty Goetz. Marty is another personal friend who has one of the most powerful ministries of music I have ever witnessed. A Jewish believer in Jesus as his Messiah, Marty writes and performs songs that honor God and bring great comfort and strength to those who hear them.
I have been taking a break with our family
I will be back in Orange County next Thursday, September 3, at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside on Sunday, September 6. We will back in the Essentials series and I will be talking about secrets to spiritual growth.
Make sure you get the word out to any people who have recently come to Christ, like those at our recent Southern California Harvest. See you all soon!
We are thankful that God allows us to not only touch our community, state, and country, but also our world through Harvest Ministries.
I just received a letter from a listener in Uganda.
Dear Pastor Greg,
Thank you for the work you are doing to the entire world through your preachings on Radio ABC in Uganda. It has really created an impact in me. Now I feel born again, and so continue with the work as you proclaim the truth of God’s Word.
Then, this e-mail from Cape Town:
Dear Pastor Greg,
Although I live in Cape Town, I feel as though I know your family and I want to thank you all for the amazing witness you have been to me during your enormous time of suffering through the loss of Christopher. What a witness you have been.
I watched you on TBN when you spoke soon after Christopher’s death, and in your utter pain, you were one of the most effective witnesses I have ever heard.
Thank you to you and your family for your love for Jesus Christ, who is our all. Your daily readings are so well grounded and it’s a privilege to have someone who tells the truth and expounds the Word so greatly.
The work you are doing in your Harvest gatherings is so exciting and makes us realize that at the end of the day, if we are not driven by eternity, we are missing out on the very best.
“Driven by Eternity”
Very well said. That’s what I want to be, “driven by eternity.”
How about you? Are you driven by eternity? If so, what does that mean?
Share your thoughts with me.
People ask me, “Why hold these Harvest Crusades events? Do they really work? Are lives really changed?”
Yes, they are.
Here is just one of many stories we’ve received:
I don’t know if this message will ever get to Greg Laurie, but if it eventually does, I just want to say thank you. The 2009 Harvest event was my first time accepting God into my life.
My name is Toni Gott and I am 15 years old. I grew up in the Catholic Church, not knowing what I was praying about or even who I was praying to.
When I attended the Harvest, my life was changed. I didn’t know God on a personal level before I listened to you preach. Now that I have accepted that I am a sinner and have accepted the Lord into my life, I feel so much closer to Him.
Mr. Laurie, I just want to say thank you because you brought on this change in my life. When you said at the beginning of the night that “lives will be changed tonight,” I didn’t believe that a few words could make such an impact.
By the time I left the Harvest, I was in tears. Your words cling to my soul and make me realize that I could never be without God. I just couldn’t. I love the Lord so much and I never knew it. Jesus Christ died on the cross for us, for me and I want to re-devote my life to the Lord. I am a new person.
I have had lots of problems as a young girl. I have tried to commit suicide at least three times. I never thought anybody would love me, but now I know God loves me just as I am. You made me realize that God can give me the strength to keep living. As long as I have my faith in the Lord, I will be ok. So again, Mr. Laurie, thank you for changing my life for the better. God Bless.
Sincerely, Toni Gott
I just received this comment on the blog, and I wanted to share it with you right away!
The doors were closed on a few friends of mine yesterday, but I am amazed at the power of the Holy Spirit. One of my friends is a new believer who took his best friend who is a non-believer, or I should say was. The gates were closed right in front of them. The people in front of them were the last to get let into Harvest. My believer friend was very upset because they had walked so much and waited for so long and he really wanted his friend to be saved.
But as they closed the gates on them, he noticed his friend standing in front of the gate and just staring at it for about 5 minutes; just staring, not moving. He called my believer friend over and told him that if he were to die now, those gates would be the gates of heaven closing in front of him and there would be no other chance for him. He felt as if God was calling him to change his life around. They went home where he wept and accepted the Lord.
So you can add one more to your list. God Bless!!!
What a great story of how God works even when we don’t think the circumstances are right!
Last night at Angel Stadium, we saw 47,000 people attend. The doors had to be closed. It was literally standing room only.
But best of all, when the invitation to make a commitment to follow Jesus Christ was given, we saw 4,488 people respond!
That brings our total for the last two nights of the Southern California Harvest to 76,000 in attendance and 7,386 people who have made professions of faith to follow Jesus. To God be the Glory!
My son Jonathan opened the evening in prayer and we heard a dynamic testimony from Nick Vujicic, who was born without arms or legs yet shares how God has been glorified in his life. I spoke on topic “The Writing Is On The Wall” from Daniel 6.
It is all archived here for you to watch on demand.
Our “official” celebration of 20 years of evangelistic crusades will be tonight. Crystal Lewis, who has been at every Southern California Harvest, will join us, along with the Katinas, who will once again lead us in worship.
Our very special musical guest tonight will be Chris Tomlin. Chris has written some of the greatest praise and worship songs of all time, and he will be leading us into God’s presence tonight. My topic tonight will be “Down-to-Earth Talk about Heaven.”
We will conclude the evening with a fireworks show and more worship music with Chris.
It all starts at 6:00 P.M., one hour earlier than the last two nights. I don’t think you will want to miss this final night, and I highly recommend you get there early, if possible.
I will see you there.
What a beginning for our 20th year of Harvest Crusades events.
We saw 29,000 people attend, and best of all, 2,898 people made professions of faith to follow Jesus. That may be an all-time high for a Friday night.
And there are two more nights to go!
Tonight, Angel Stadium will rock with the sounds of Relient K, Skillet, and the Katinas as they lead us in worship.
My message will be “The Writing’s On the Wall.” It’s the story of a proud, young king of Babylon who thought he could ignore and even mock God without consequence. He found out differently.
The “writing is on the wall” for us to see too, and the message is this: eternity is real, life is short, and Jesus is coming!
So come on out tonight to the youth event at the Southern California Harvest or watch online here.
