I’m happy to announce a new partnership with the SBC, focused on bringing the Good News to our country and the world!

GREG LAURIE AND HARVEST CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP TO JOIN THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Greg Laurie, founding pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, has announced that Harvest Christian Fellowship will join the Southern Baptist Convention:

“Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus told his disciples to take the Good News of the gospel to the entire world. I believe we are the first generation that can actually accomplish that task. Because of today’s technology, we have more opportunities for global evangelism than any generation before us and to accomplish this we must renew our emphasis on evangelism as never before. Most importantly, we must unify our efforts. We must learn to walk in common purpose and common vision. I believe the need is urgent and the time is now.

“On June 12, I announced that Harvest Christian Fellowship would be joining the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Harvest is an independent congregation that will continue fellowship with the Calvary Chapel family of churches as well, and this decision does not change our theology, philosophy of ministry or our history. It merely extends the reach of our fellowship within the Christian world at a time when the vision and mission of Harvest remains — as it has been for 42 years — focused on the teaching of God’s word and the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Long ago, I came to realize I am called by God to simply do two primary things: to teach God’s word and to preach the gospel. This is the calling of the Lord on my life. Other than my personal walk with the Lord, and loving my wife and family, this is my only focus. My passion is to reach as many people as possible with the Good News of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ until my final breath. One of the reasons why we proclaimed 2017 ‘The Year of Good News’ is because I intend on even further amplifying my focus on gospel proclamation. It’s also why Harvest Crusades, with the assistance of the Southern Baptist Convention, organized the Harvest America 2017 crusade on June 11 at the University of Phoenix Stadium. It’s why we’ll do it all again next year in Dallas on June 10, 2018.

“We need a national revival as much as at any time in our nation’s history. We must pray for it, work toward it and do everything possible to prepare the ground for it. We must preach and pray until it comes. This is why we’ve chosen to extend a hand of fellowship to the Southern Baptist Convention, the nation’s largest protestant denomination of churches. We’ve chosen to partner in total, unrelenting pursuit of our nation’s next great awakening.

“I know the effect of the revival we seek firsthand because I came to Christ during the last great American revival, often referred to as the ‘Jesus Movement.’ That revival emanated primarily from Calvary Chapel in Southern California, and I learned to preach the gospel and to teach God’s Word myself within the Calvary Chapel movement under the example of Pastor Chuck Smith. Since that time, I’ve invested my life in the Calvary fellowship of churches while working with countless Christians from nearly every other denomination. I’ll continue to do just that, and I also look forward to continuing to build bridges between our communities. It has also been my privilege to be friends with evangelist Billy Graham (himself a Southern Baptist) for many years, and from him I learned how to preach the gospel.

“I believe that the time is right to reach across the church and to lock hands in total support of the rapid advance of the gospel in our nation and in our world. I believe this decision is a powerful step in that direction. I appreciate the SBC’s focus on evangelism as well as their outreach in missions and relief ministries that touch our world every day in a significant way.

“I look forward to partnering with them and all believers who have a passion for evangelism. The need in our country and the world is so great.”

I have a question do the southern Baptists believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit and do they believe the gifts are for today? Thank you in advance for your response. Judy Infante

This is LEADERSHIP! Embodying “unity in our diversity” – majoring on the majors not the minors! Jesus is the hope of the world and while He is not on earth in bodily form, He does have a body that He works through. We will accomplish infinitely more together than apart!! Oh the Lord is really big – and this is an example of not insulting Him with small thinking and parked lives. “Look up” the Harvest is plentiful … I am proud of you Greg!

Good evening Pastor Greg. It’s Ginger Jackson now Martin. I saw information in the news today that caught me by surprise about the SBC. It was in regard to the SBC denouncing alt-right ideology. It seems as if there had to be major discussion over the SBC’s position. At one point they rejected a motion to denounce the alt-right.

I remembered that you were in Arizona this week with Harvest America and wondered if you were at the meeting. Low and behold, here is a letter about joint collaborations.

Yes, I am happy for spreading the word of God. I will pray for you as you continue to preach the gospel. Please remember that the church that God has built at Harvest is multi-cultural. Make sure that the flock that you are tending are cared for.

Billy Graham was part of the Civil Rights Movement by making sure that his sermons all across the south were integrated. No, he did not march because Dr Martin Luther King asked him to continue preaching to desegregated audiences. I pray that you will be a strong voice within the SBC to speak God’s truth on these types of issues that apparently have argument within this convention. God bless you.

      Ginger,
I was at the SBC meeting. There was no “major discussion” nor was there any conflict with the action of denouncing racism as anti-gospel. There was a process of getting the words right and following the correct rules for a vote. News outlets went to print in the middle of the process and caused a lot of unnecessary controversy.

When the resolution denouncing racism (which we have done many times before) came to a vote, there was only one person out of 4,900 who voted “No.” The rest of us are not sure what she was thinking.

1 in 5 SBC churches self-identifies as “ethnic”. It is the most racially diverse collection of churches in North America. I think you’ll be happy the more you get to know us.

I’m excited Harvest Christian Fellowship is going to work with other SBC churches to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth for every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation. That is what the SBC is about, and that is what we are going to do together.

I understand fully. Combining resources and knitting together for the one purpose of spreading the gospel is within the great commission. Your decision is an extension of your tent. Better tighten your seat belt old friend! It is going to get great sooner than you think. The King is coming. Blessed be His holy name.

We are all one body, there is no Church names, Church philosophies that makes us what we are, Christians. We all need to be in one Mind one Accord and One Spirit And love each other with the love of Christ and unite together in the power of the Holy Spirit to carry it out the message of Christ to a lost world. I’m so happy to hear the news and pray that God will multiplied and multiplied all the labor of his servants.

This is wonderful news. I started at Calvary CM and then we moved to Riverside and went to Harvest. 20 years ago we moved to Georgia. No one wants to work together for the kingdom here.?It makes me sad. A few years ago the Lord put it on my heart unity in the body. We are one body and we need to act like one body. When we get to heaven we will all be the same. P. Greg you are a good example to all of us thank you.

    1. Jackie says:

Well Rick when we get to Heaven we will be perfect because we will All have the mind of Christ. Reality is in this life there will always be differents .

  10. Jen says:

That is wonderful news! The walls that have separated the Body of Christ need to be broken down. As long as the churches are grounded in the Word of God and have the core elements of Christianity in place (Virgin Birth, Sin, Death, Resurrection, etc), there shouldn’t be walls. We need to come together.

I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church and learned about Calvary Chapel and Pastor Greg around 2001. My church’s motto was “To know Christ and make Him known”, and it is the same with Harvest.

Pastor Greg has been in my heart for the past 17+ years, and the Lord has really placed a burden on me to pray for him now more than ever. God has wonderful plans for Harvest Ministries and is about to use Greg in a mighty, mighty way. Our country, and the rest of the world, is unraveling into chaos, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ needs to be preached to the lost in these last days.

Praise God for His mercy and unfailing love. He is forever faithful.

    Jen

I began listening to Greg when he hit the East Coast VIA the radio in the 80s. I know of no pastor today who has more passion for lost souls, and has produced the results of presenting the Gospel at crusades where thousands have come to Christ. Due to his humility he would not make this comparison but I know of no pastor better qualified to take up the mantle of Billy Graham. May God bless Greg and this new partnership as he continues his mission of rescuing lost souls and returning lost sheep who have wandered away from the Shepherd.

  12. Shirley Lilly says:

Great News! I’m happy to hear this.
I was raised Baptist and joined Calvary Chapel of Riverside, now Harvest in 1981 as my home church!

  14. Denise says:

I am so excited to hear this! 42 years ago when I was 15 and attending a So. Baptist Church in Riverside, I went to hear a young preacher. He wore blue jeans and had long hair (believe it or not) and we sat on the floor to listen to the message. The parents and older folks in our church were fearful for their youth groups. Looks like it all worked out Greg!

  15. Javier Hernandez says:

I must admit my first reaction was “oh no”, but by the time I finished reading this blog I realized that this is an answer to the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus prayed for his church to be one and this is exactly what this partnership is doing. Praise God!

  16. Judy Leone says:

I am a Harverst monthly partner and I am very pleased with this decision. I can hear the enthusiasm in your blog. I pray the Lord opens doors and pours out his Spirit on every endeavor. I will continue to pray for you and this ministry. As a wife, mother and grandmother I feel so blessed and honored to be a part of this great opportunity. The Lord commissioned us to spread the good news to the whole world and you make it possible for people to do just that by giving monthly to Harvest Ministries and increasing the kingdom. I want to thank you for allowing me to be part of this ministry. May the Lord bless you and your precious family Pastor Greg.
