Chicago, Chicago!

June 22nd, 2009 Posted in essentials, family, Harvest Crusades, OC, Pastor's corner, sermons, travel

Well, it’s official now. We are going to hold our first full Harvest Crusades event in the great city of Chicago next year!

Chicago is the third largest city in America and, of course, the home of one of the greatest evangelists who ever lived, D.L.Moody. It is also home to some amazing churches that have invited us and offered their support.

I have always wanted to preach in Chicago, so I am really looking forward to it. I am hoping that some of you might even be able to join us for what will be a historic event for Harvest Ministries.

The dedication of Lucy Christopher Laurie

I dedicated my second granddaughter–and daughter of Christopher and Brittany Laurie–yesterday at church.

Christopher and Brittany picked the name Lucy together (It means “light”). Brittany picked the middle name of Christopher after my son went to heaven, in honor of him. Christopher means “bearer of Christ.”

So we pray that little Lucy will be a light who brings Jesus to others. She is just the sweetest little girl and it was a pleasure to dedicate her to Her Father in heaven, who happens to be holding her earthly father in His tender care.

I will post a copy of the video of that dedication soon.

A challenging day

Many of you prayed for our family, as yesterday was our first Father’s Day without our oldest son, and I thank you for that.

Being a graphic artist, he always designed the most amazing Father’s Day cards.

We missed him and miss him so very much, and loved and love him. Yes, it was a hard day, but we made it!

I asked my good friend Don McClure to speak, and he did a wonderful job. If you would like to watch his message, click here.

Looking forward

We are looking forward to what the Lord will do this week. I will be speaking in O.C. this coming Thursday from my series, Essentials: What Every Christian Needs to Know.

My topic this Thursday is “Angels and Demons” (no relation to the movie out of that title). We will talk about these mysterious creatures and the role they play in our lives.

Also, this coming Friday, I will be speaking at Creation Fest Northeast in Pennsylvania.

This annual Christian music festival is attended by thousands and thousands of people. So if you know anyone in that area, let them know I will be there. My topic will be “Down-to-Earth Talk About Heaven.”

For more information on that, click here.

Well, that’s all for now. Have a blessed day walking with Him.

    WOW!!
You’re all coming to Chicago next year. Thank you God. That’s wonderful and God willing I will be there to cheer you all on and praise the Lord with you.

Saw the dedication of Lucy. What a precious little gift from God she is. Both of your grandbabies are beautiful. I am so happy for all of you that you have been blessed with such a wonderful family. Don’t forget that your Topher is always with you. I know he watches from above and he will always be alive in your hearts. The saddest part is that is daughters will not know him personally. I pray that they will have their grandfather to help make up for that all their days.

I forgot, one last thing regarding Harvest Crusades. Have you thought about having one in Boise, Idaho? I have a cousin and her family who live there (former California natives) and they do not know the Lord. I would really like to visit them soon and from what my cousin and her teenage son have told me there are a lot of people who do not know the Lord out there.

    Hi Greg,

Chicago, awesome! Now we have a reason to visit my son’s grandparents next year in Buffalo Grove, IL. His grandmother usually comes here to visit in the summer. I’ve never seen Chicago in the summer, so this will be a great opportunity and to enjoy your sermon and some rockin Christian music of course. Please let us know the dates so we can mark our calendar and make flight plans.

    Blessings,

Reading your blog made me think about how selfish I am. It was fathers day, but all I could think about was my own problems my own failures and the pain I am going through right now. I pray that this will never happen again, that even when I’m depressed and upset that I can still glorify the Lord and show my father the love he deserves instead of crying about the pain I’m going through. Thank you for showing strength and thank you for preaching the word of the Lord.

Greg I was privileged to see you dedicate Lucy on Sunday and from the anguish in your eyes we all knew it was a difficult day for you not having Christopher by your side as well. I felt the same anguish as tears rolled down my cheeks at church….this is the first Father’s Day for me without my dad. I continue to pray for ALL of you that God’s grace and comfort will cover you, especially during the dark times. Blessings to you and your family.

    Pastor Greg,
Thank you that one of the ways you take care of us, your flock here in Riverside, is by letting us hear great speakers when you are away. Thanks for Raul Ries and Don McClure these last two weeks.

It was good to see the response in Long Island, and I know God will do mighty things next year in Chicago, too!

    Dear Greg

First I to know how hard this fathers day was as our 21 yr. old son went to be with the Lord
on Jan. 1 2009. We had a great service at church Sunday that truly blessed my whole family, our son Rickys older sisters continue to struggle emotionally as we all do with his going home, but we were all truly blessed by a guest singer named Paul Pitts who gave a concert and testimony that we all felt was the Lord speaking directly to the Ernst family. Our Pastor pulled me aside after the service and said that was for you Rick. THE LORD IS GREAT.
I have been listening to you on my ipod pretty much since the first of the year, Thank You for allowing God to Use you. I dont think you will ever be able to appreciate the impact your ministry has had on so many people(until THE LORD SHOWS youwhen you get to heaven). My prayer for you is that you stay grounded in the WORD and your family stays protected and continues to support you.

Jonathon stay strong I pray that each step you take is the step That God intends for you to take. Seek and Follow HIM.

    Brittany,Stella,and Lucy
I am praying for you that the Lord will comfort and protect you as only he can. GOD BLESS THE BABIES. Our oldest daughter has a 5yr.old daughter a 2yr.old boy and twins girls due this week. Praise The Lord for babies.

Cathe thank you for being the woman of Christ that you are. Thank you for enabling, and encouraging Greg in your ministry. Because of your unselfish life thousands of people have the assurance of salvation, and can find peace
and comfort with the loss of a loved one. I watch my wife every day deal with the loss of Ricky it leaves a huge whole in our hearts BUT WE KNOW THAT HES WITH THE LORD and someday we will be together again. Right now I’m thinkin our two sons might be telling some pretty funny stories to each other about there families.

Sorry this was intended to just be a short note telling you how excited I was to see you were coming to the Chicago area. Im a truck driver by trade (retired) and this typing thing goes real slow for me. Any way if there is anyway our church could help I’m sure they would be willing i will be talking to my pastor about this. HE has been praying and speaking about a revival and only THE LORD knows but you all may be a great big part of it.

Challenging days are difficult as you look to them coming – but God gets us through them wonderfully as we look back. Thanksgiving my son and his wife dedicated their son to the Lord. My husband was called home Oct. 5, 2008 but praise the Lord he had one glimpse of him 10 hours before his departure. Our grandson was born July 24, 2008. July 15th my husband had an AVM and was in ICU. I THANK OUR LORD for bringing your family into my life. Someday I will share in detail how GOD has used you to help me these last months. Keep on Greg – I pray for you often!

Can’t wait for the Chicago Crusade! We’ll let our midwest friends and family members know. Maybe you’ll have it in Millenium Park?
