Israel: a sign of the times

October 22nd, 2009 Posted in essentials, Pastor's corner, sermons

This Sunday at Harvest, I will be speaking about the events of the last days I will share with you reasons why I believe Jesus could come back at any moment.

As I pointed out in my last post, a key to understanding Bible prophecy is to see the role of the nation Israel.

God promised that she would be established in the land in the first place, scattered, and then regathered. And when the Jewish people returned to their homeland of Israel, that would be a “sign of the times,” telling us that Jesus is returning.

In his book Israel Under Fire, John Ankerberg points out that this was all predicted in Ezekiel 37:21-22:

  1. He “will take the sons of Israel from among the nations. whererever they have gone.”
  2. He “will gather them from every side and bring them into  their own land.”
  3. He “will make them one nation in the land.”

So has this happened?

1. God promised that, in the last days, He would gather the Jewish people from all over the  world, from the different nations where they had been scattered.

Check.

2. God promised the Jewish people that He would gather them to a specific place: the land of Israel.

Check.

3. God promised the Jewish people that not only would  He gather them to Israel, but He would make them into a nation once they arrived in the land.

Check.

4. God promised the Jewish people He would give them back the city of Jerusalem.

Check.

A modern-day miracle

All this, of course, became a reality on May 14, 1948.

This was against all odds. After losing six million Jews to the Nazis in World War II, the Jewish people returned to their homeland.

Today, the modern state of Israel stands as a monument to fulfilled biblical prophecy. As Israel’s first prime minister, David  Ben-Gurion, stated, “If you know the story of Israel and what happened here, and you do not believe in miracles, you are not realistic. Something is wrong with you.”‘

I’ll have much more on this tonight and next Sunday at Harvest in Riverside.

    Hi Pastor Greg!

We certainly are everyday more near of our Lord’s return!

It’s all exciting, overwhelming and challenging at the same time!

We have our Evangelistic campaign this weekend at our congregation, we do 2 a year (next one in December) and we’ve had several attacks from the enemy, so, we’re expecting great blessing from it. I’m also excited cause most of the people I invite don’t usually go or even reply to my invite, but this year at least some of my invitees look excited and are working on attending. I’m very happy, even if they don’t go after all, but I sure hope they do!!

One of my invitees is a former english/phonetics teacher of mine, he’s over 80 but sure looks way younger. He said his brother is visitting this weekend and that he may or may not go because of that, cause his brother is a franciscan monk and in hermitage, but he mentioned that he’s very open, so, he’ll ask him to come. And as Chuck Swindoll would put it: “IS that GREAT or WHAT?!”

I’m looking forward to next year’s Harvest Crusades, I hope I can make it to one! Got family in both the LA area and Chicago, so, if I do go, I’ll bring guests!!

    Blessings,

    Hi Pastor Greg,

Your solid and down to earth teaching style is so nice to listen to. I listen daily and it really helps keep focused on the eternal perspective of God. I pray that the Lord keeps you comforted until you see your son again. I went through a similar trauma a few years ago and can relate to it. You are very much appreciated!

    Blessings,
    Frank

I have been watching the news, my children in school and what they tell me and so on, but most importantly I know in my heart what you speak of Pastor Greg is true, and this is very much what I see studying Gods’ word and i am seeing come to pass. God Bless you Pastor Greg, and your fantastic teaching of Gods good news and letting it be known and made known. I am most certainly putting on the armor of God and going to go for it, amen!

    Pastor Greg:

Seeing each of those “checks” fills me with both anticipation and an overwhelming desire to tell others about Jesus’ great love for them!

Israel is a modern day miracle! As Christian’s we all need to continually pray that the Jewish people’s eyes will be opened so that they can see that Jesus is the Messiah.

Have safe travels as you come to the my neck of the woods next week – I pray that the event at The Cove touches many – not just with knowledge, but with the desire to move forward in their faith.

    Thanks for preaching the Word!
