Killer Quake in Japan. . . A Sign of the Times?
March 11th, 2011 Posted in sermons
An 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan has hit with a ferocious tsunami.
It’s the largest earthquake in the history of Japan. This on the heels of the quake that just rocked Christchurch, New Zealand.
Friends, I believe that these are “signs of the times,” without question.
There are many “signs of the times” Jesus told us to look for, which point to His return. Jesus told us one of those signs is that there would be an increase in earthquakes.
“And there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven” (Luke 21:11).
We will see more of this in the future.
We have always had earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis, but you can expect to see more of them as we get closer to Christ’s return.
According to the U.S. Geological Society, earthquakes are increasing. For the past five decades, every decade has seen an increased in the number of earthquakes. Not just minor ones, but “Killer Quakes,” and this one has been one of the strongest ever.
Unrest in the Middle East
Then you look at all that is happening in the Middle East, especially in Egypt and Libya, and we wonder, are these “signs of the times?”
I believe they are.
I want to talk about that this coming Sunday at Harvest Riverside. Our service times are 7:45/9:45/11:45 am and 5:00 pm. All of this will be broadcast live online at www.harvest.org.
Don’t forget: we are having a time change this weekend as well.

Thanks pastor for d message. l sincerely hope a lot of people will recognise, realise and acknowlege that GOD is REAL. I believe strongly that God is not playing dice with cosmos. I really sympathise with people of Japan but they need to that God is God indeed rather than putting their faith in science and other gods.
Pastor, my husband said maybe this is the “end”, (or the sign of the times as we call it. My husband is not ((Not yet-hope, hope)) a believer), and I said that I had not doubt that it is. This quake, now categorized at 9.0 was so awful to watch, but I saw it happen as it happened and then into the tsunami and I was so traumatized for those people-couldn’t believe it and stared at the TV from when it started until 8:00 a.m. the next morning (talk about a glutton for punishment) But my heart just so went out to them. Please pray for them Pastor Greg. I know that you do, of course. But please say one more for my husband, and I will pray as well. I hope SO MUCH that I can get there Sunday!
Respect, blessings and love.
Pastor Greg
Jesus did say in the Gospels this would happen.
Please pray for those in Japan.
Thank you for leading me back to Jesus on Tuesday 14th October 2008 at 6.25AM Melbourne Time, Pastor Greg.
Your Book Lost Boy is an inspirational story. I can relate to lapsing and coming back to Jesus beacuse I did that myself.
The chapter when you recount your reunion with Oscar Laurie (The man who gave you your last name), I almost cried when I read that chapter. Jesus speaks to me through your Radio Ministry.
Thank you again Pastor Greg.
Your Brother In Christ

Thank you pastor for your timely thoughts on this distastor. As I watch the homes and work places of these sweet people just be washed away it reminds me that my spiritual house (my heart) needs to be ready to meet my Lord. I’m praying for all my stubborn friends who refuse to listen to the spirit’s clear call.
As believers in Christ, we all have the same Holy Spirit in us. Lately, my thoughts have been continuously on end times prophesy and how much is being fulfilled. Are other believers feeling this same way too? Is the Holy Spirit telling us to get ready?
I actually cried in anguish when I heard about this earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I pray that God enables the gospel to go forth as Japan recovers. Many Japanese people do not know the Lord Jesus.
On one hand I feel priviliged to be a witness of all this coming to pass, on the other hand there’s an urge for Christians to get their house in order and pray God will use us to bring in the harvest; the angels are ready to blow the trumpet!
I’m so glad you are talking about this, at my home church in Douglasville GA….they haven’t even mentioned it. Not even with all what has been going on in the last few months. I’m so saddened by that….. I look forward to attending your on-line service tomorrow!!
Dear pastor greg ,I am a new beliver I always believed but I Didn’t get it before I have exceped jesus christ as my lord and savior looks like just in time, I don’t no a lot about end times , but what little I do know,I’d say jesus christ is on his way Praise the Lord Almighty god ,thank you so much for bringing me to my knees ,I pray for the lost. Souls in jesus name
I have been trying to express the urgency of salvation for our families and friends since the unrest in the middle east. Everyone thinks I’m crazy but I know it’s all written out for us in black and white. I hope you hit home with people about these signs. I’m rooting for you!
God is so good…..people are worried but finally ready listen…..this is the time to spread the good news…..I pray for the courage and the words to do so…
That’s the truth.
I was just discussing this with my children in the car this morning. He is indeed coming.
Thank you, Greg. I am reminded what Jesus said in the Gospels about the signs of His Return. I am not afraid, for I know my Redemption draweth nigh. So, this morning’s Japan’s quake at 8.9 just blew me away. I know where we are, and I know how it ends- to GOD’s Great Glory! Busy, aren’t we, Lord?
Please pray, pastor Greg.
