Always love a cooking video! Ham hocks are trendy these days for rustic-style soups, so here in Australia one large ham hock is around $8! Crazy.
FYI: Whenever meat is added to the sauce it becomes Italian “gravy”. I’m from the east coast & grew up with lots of Italians. So, is this different for Italians on the west coast?
Love the vid and outtakes! I lived in Spain for 3 yrs and traveled a few time to Italy where I found their dishes very simple and fresh!
What’s next? Enchiladas?
Aunt Jo…you are the best cook ever!!!!
Love and prayers to you and Tony.
Really, this is my Pastor?? This is why the Lord is working through you, you can relate to anybody! I love it. Will we get a taste of the sauce at church Sunday? God Bless..
I love Jo, well I love Cathe and Greg too, but I thought Jo was so cute. She could hardly see over the top of the pot. The question is, how do you wash a pot that is the same size as your sink!?
So…. If I subsituted Ham Hocks for say…Chicken hocks, would that make it lighter in calories?
lol… jk!!!
Love the segment. My husband’s family is from Italy and my mother in law never used ham hocs in her sauce. I make great sauce too as I have been told and never heard of this “secret”. I have read many, many Italian cookbooks and they never have mentioned this so I guess it truly is a “secret”. I will have to try this and see if it makes the sauce better. Love the outtakes, Greg has a great sense of humor.
Pretty close…but what about the salt…sugar…oregano…and pepper?
No spices? It isn’t going to taste very good. Other than that, she made it exactly like my family has done for over 100 years…minus the hamhocks.
Mangia!
I can smell the sauce here in AZ..looks so yummy..never heard of ham hocks in the sauce. By the way, Greg, you answered our prayers in doing Marlon Brando godfather skit! Can’t wait to have my husband watch! Miss you all at Harvest..wish we were back at Harvest. God Bless.
I’ll sure be making this sauce….Loved this video!
My, flavorful pasta sauce, with a surprise ingredient! With appropriate humor…and editing. Nice to view, and enjoy after such a busy morning, and afternoon. Simply fun, and thank you! Cathe & Greg, and your guest Jo..
thank you
So cool I enjoyed your video
Yeah we would love a ingredient list because I wrote down everything, but she added some spices that weren’t mentioned. That is the key!! I’ve tried forever to make good sauce and I’ve tried EVERY kind of pre-made. I agree with Greg ….always too sweet. I hope this works. and those hamhocks are scary, but I’m willing to try for a good sauce.
For all of you asking for the recipe, you can find it here on the Virtue website.
this is great I love it and will try the with the secret ingredient
