Warning about Fake Facebook Accounts!

September 28th, 2012 Posted in sermons

Over the past few months someone has been creating fraudulent Facebook profiles claiming to be me. They send out friend requests to people who have “liked” my page and then message them personally, asking them to donate money to a phony charity.

If you see this kind of activity, please report it to Facebook. On the fraudulent profile, click Report/Block, as shown below. Thanks for your help! For more information on reporting abuse to Facebook, click here.

Barbara Chronister’s experience is exactly mine! I was asked if I had a prayer request, followed by the Isaac’s jungle when I told him I myself is waiting on God for rain.
I saw through this fraud and he became quiet. This made me go online for more info on Pastor Greg and I came to the conclusion that a man of such calibre wouldn’t do such. I knew something wasn’t right when I went through his timeline (before I accepted his request ) and I found other ministers sermons edited to be his
People are even using the ministry to dupe others! whao! Judgment would soon come!

A friend revealed you to me last year, your preachings have brought me closer to God.I usually do not care for evangelist, but you are not that..You speak the truth, and it goes straight to the heart. Thanks…And whoever is impersonating, god fprgives you too..

  3. Another friend says:

I received a friend request, then an instant message from the fake Greg Laurie. When I got the IM, my first question was, “Who is this?! Really?!” & the reply was, “Pastor Greg. Why do you doubt, beloved?” And then he asked if I had a prayer request… The nerve of this person!!! I chatted back and forth for a few minutes, feeling in my gut that this was an imposter. Then came the request for money for an orphanage in Africa… I said I would talk to my husband. They asked when I would do that & how soon would I send the money(?)… Very persistent!!! Finally I said, “do not ever contact me again!!! You are a fraud!!!” And they signed off & deactivated the FB account… Be careful, folks!!! It sounds like this person is getting more bold!!!

  4. Lovella Bartlett says:

I was just requested today. Thank you Pastor for clearing that up. I did report them and hopefully facebook will do something to get this stopped. God Bless you so very much Pastor for all your work serving the Lord. I look forward to meeting you someday up in the clouds :) I AM READY!!!!!! (((HUGS)))

  5. Darlene says:

I got a friend request also. I was so excited because I admire Greg Laurie so much. He asked if I had a prayer request. I told him and he gave me a verse. I am so disappointed because I actually found that verse later and felt I had really received a much needed message. He did not ask for money. Now instead of the picture of Greg Laurie it just shows the blue and white face. So sad that bad people are so quick to pretend to be Christians. If they spent half the time trying to actually become one, they may be much happier.

  6. Janiele Hartsough says:

I also have been also talked to some one who was saying thery were Greg laurie . I was schocked out of every peron he friended me and actually talked to me and askd for prayer requests . I will pray for this person to knock off there rediculous scam. WE LOVE Greg Laurie !!! GOD BLESS HIM AND ALL HE DOES !!!!!!

  7. Robert Pulido says:

The same thing happened to me as Barbara Chronister.. but the only thing that happened to me was that I was over filled with joy thinking that Greg Laurie Actually took his time talk to me.. : ( But when I found out that he was a fake my spirit was crushed For the reason that I’m going Through so many life trials, Loss family To divorce.. Loss of job.. And losing home. And I just redevoted my life to Jesus Christ at Greg Laurie Harvest Crusade September 9 with my Brother George….

  8. Steven salas says:

  9. Roger w blassingame says:

I got a messege from greg laurie(fake account)it started out with “how are you” then ask for”prayer request to then it turned into a request for money for an orphanage in in Africa. When i started asking for a legitimate identify they stopped. They couldnt tell me anything about greg or family that he speaks about in his sermons.

  10. Alina says:

I was one othr person that tha fake pastor greg requested and he asked me to help out a charity in Africa but I had remembered that a while back the real Pastor Greg had said someone was passing off as him so I decieded to compare the profiles although he may know a lot about the real Greg not everything is the same some of the info is way off but I can’t help feel betrayed by this fraud

  11. Linda Stein says:

I have not received any fake facebook account from Greg Laurie.
I have, however, received fake accounts for Billy Graham, Ravi Zacharias, and a phone call from the “prophet (profit) Mannasseh who obviously got my phone number from the internet. Beware, these people are targeting all Christian sites!

  12. Lori says:

Barbara took the words right out of my mouth. Same thing happened to me almost to a tee. Unfortunately I didn’t see any warning and contacted Harvest directly. I had the sense to check their web site and saw no affiliation with any charity in Africa. Here’s where I think this imposter has a weakness: I asked him/her if he was indeed Pastor Greg or a member of his staff, the person responded that they were “an associate” of Pastor Greg. Oops, they felt compelled to tell the truth, when they easily could have lied. There must be SOME good in this person(s). I think we should all pray for them to change their hearts to do as the Lord would have them do and repent!

  13. Barbara Chronister says:

I received a friend request from Greg Laurie on facebook a few days ago! Then tonight he messaged me and ask if I had prayer request. I of course gave my prayer request. He then gave me scriptures and I felt so encouraged! Then he said I need you to do something for the lord.. i need you to sow a seed of faith to an orphanage home in Africa.. Gen 26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. I then thought hmmm this does not seem right? So came to Harvest site and saw the facebook scam warning…I have reported him. So sad..I did tell him he needs to repent and surrender his life to the Lord Jesus.

  14. Cindy says:

It just happened to me! I thought it was weird that I had just hit “like” on the message GL was speaking tonight and then got the request…. I realized he probably wasn’t facebooking right before tonights gig!

  15. Papa Dan says:

Greg Laurie & Harvest Ministries, sorry to hear about this type of ID theft, we have to be so careful in this evil world, I have decided facebook itself is becoming too big, and greedy, not the fun social site it was! I will continue to view your website and donate direct to you. Thank you for your ministries.

  16. Neva McPeak says:

Someone today, a fellow believer left me a message on facebook. It basicly reminded me not to fear what man can do, because I am his daughter. I want to thank that person so much. We believers all need words of encouragement. As Pastor Greg said on Thursday, some of us get harded hearts ever now and then. So, this all reminded me of a song we used to sing in chruch. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever and I shall feast at the table spread for me, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, all the days, all the days of my life. Thank you fellow believer. God bless.

  17. David J. Laurie says:

I received a friend request from a Greg Laurie on FaceBook. I really thought it was Pastor Greg Laurie. So far I have not been approached for money by them. I will do the report/block option. So sorry to hear this as I cried when I thought you had befriended me Pastor Greg. Any way, God bless you all for the work you are doing.

  18. Oengus says:

I have heard reports that other ministers besides yourself have had the same problem with Facebook imposters. One in particular that I know about had the same problem with an impersonator on Facebook asking people for donations.

I guess this situation illustrates the downside of using Facebook. You can’t immediately tell if the person really is who you think he is.

  19. Neva McPeak says:

I was one of the people this fake person befriended. I was asked to send money to a orphanage in Africa. I almost did, but something inside me told me that sending money to Africa thur Western Union was not right. I could not sleep for several nights, because I felt I disobeyed God. This has made me so angry, not to mention, this person now has my email. This person had your picture and seemed to know alot about you. I can’t believe someone could use the word of God this way.
