The weekend is here!

October 25th, 2008 Posted in family, lost boy, Lost Boy Blog, sermons, travel

We are enjoying some beautiful and very warm weather here in Southern California, and it is good to be home.

As I mentioned earlier this week, I am speaking this Sunday at Harvest and I am returning to my series from the book of Acts that we are calling Upside-Down Living.

It has been three months since I taught from this series, as my son’s unexpected death pretty much brought everything to a halt. We had some wonderful guest speakers filling our pulpit in my absence, including Chuck Smith, Jon Courson, Alistair Begg, Jack Graham, and many others to whom I am indebted.

As a matter of fact, the message I will be giving this Sunday was the one I was working on the day my son Christopher went to heaven. It was almost completed, so when I went back to it, the words took on a different meaning to me, as much of life has.

There is one section in it where Peter is told to do a certain thing and his response was, “Never, Lord!” I will point out how those two words cannot go together.

We can say, “How, Lord,” and even “Why, Lord,” but not “Never, Lord!” Because if He is truly Lord, the only proper thing to say is “Yes, Lord.”

Book signing at Barnes and Noble

Don’t forget I will signing copies of my autobiography, Lost Boy, at the Barnes and Noble store in Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California, this coming Sunday, October 26 at 3:00 P.M.

I hope to see some of you there and I would be delighted to sign your copy of Lost Boy.

    Dearest Pastor Greg,

I was so looking forward to meeting you this Sunday at your book signing in Newport. Unfortunately, by the time I got there you were gone. =( Hopefully, you’ll have another local book signing sometime VERY soon! =) I can’t wait to meet you…I feel as if you’re a family member that I already know without really personally knowing you! You’re such an inspiration in my life and I know your love for God has touched countless others! Thank you!

    Dear Pastor Greg,
Welcome back. It was good to see you and hear you speak from the pulpit this morning. I continue to keep you and your family in my prayers.
God bless you, Cathe, Jonathan, Brittany, Stella, and baby to be.

  6. Gloria says:

    Dear Pastor Greg and Family,
It is so nice to have you back home and returning to Harvest, you have been missed. Even in your absence you and your family are still prayed over daily. I also pray that Brittany and Stella find peace and joy in Jesus especially as the time nears for the new baby to arrive.

May God bless and keep you today and always.

Still living in Gods amazing grace.

    Dear Pastor Greg:

First of all “thank you”… It was over 18 years ago that I surrendered my heart to Christ at a Monday event at CC of Costa Mesa. 5 years ago, my husband & I left So. Cal and moved to Montana. I couldn’t help but think of your son and the beautiful time your family had when I saw the pictures of MT on your blog. Topher got to experience some of the most beautiful country before he died.

As I attend a church in Montana called Harvest, this weekend led me to look your ministry up on the web and to see how things where progressing. I was very saddended to read about Topher’s passing. My prayers go out to you, Cathe and the rest of the family as you prepare with mixed emotions the newest addition of the Laurie family to come.

    Blessings upon you….
God Bless you and thank you again.

Pastor Greg, we love to see you and we’re happy you are back from another successful journey on the road. We are praying for Brittany as she enters her time and for the entire Laurie family as they continue to support, encourage and love her. You will never get over the empty chair, but we are praying that God will bless you and Cathe with extra peace of mind and comfort of heart during the holidays.

  9. Patty says:

    Dear Pastor,
Thank you Jesus, that you are home again. We have missed you and it was so good to see this morning teaching and leading your people.
God bless you in your travels to come and please God, keep you safe.
We are so proud to be apart of your flock
    There is Joy in Jesus

  10. Lisa says:

It will be great to see you!! You have been missed. The guests were wonderful, but It feels like a close family member has been gone for a relly long time and is finely coming home and everyone is so excited.

Hope you have been blessed while you’ve been away.

  11. Crissy says:

It will be so good to have you back. We’ve missed you.

  12. Suzie says:

I am very glad that you will be back at Harvest this Sunday. I enjoyed all the special guest speakers in the past three months but I did miss you as I am sure the whole congregation has. Welcome Home Pastor Greg, and God Bless you and your Family.

  13. June says:

    Pastor Greg,

Welcome home! It will be good to see you back in your pulpit.

Two of my favorite words in Scripture are “But God.” We may have our own plans, things may seem all wrong, all messed up, but God has His own perfect plan. When we remember that, we can say “Yes, Lord.”

I thank God for the times He has helped me turn from “Never, Lord” to “But God” to “Yes, Lord.”

  14. Walt says:

Greg, I just wanted to comment in general what an inspiration you have been for me personally. Unbeknownst to you I’m sure, God brought your ministry into my life from the first days of my acceptance of Christ as Lord, Savior, and Redeemer. Words are not enough to convey my deepest thanks for your ministry and the impact God has had on my life through you.

I was very fortunate to attend Harvest Crusades in Augusta, Georgia a few years back and was literally blown away by the event, but particularly in seeing the devotion of so many young folks! And its always a treat listening to Jeremy Camp speak and sing. I hope you bring Harvest to Atlanta some day soon.

My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family on the loss of your son Christopher. I too have a son Christopher who has twice deployed to Iraq, and just the mere thought of losing him in battle has been hard. I can only imagine how tough this loss has been for you personally. I’ve lifted you and your family up to God and take some measure of comfort, as I hope you do, that your son is side by side with Jesus.

Many blessings and much love in Jesus. Thanks for walking the path with me (sometimes in front beckoning me to continue), and for all the encouragement.

    Your brother in Christ,
    Walt
    Acworth, Georgia
