Easter

March 22nd, 2008 Posted in holidays, sermons

This is Easter weekend and, here in Southern California, we are having beautiful weather. It should be in the 80s, which is just perfect as we will have a lot of people seated outside in our overflow for our four Easter morning services at Harvest.

The title of my message this year is “A Heart That Burns For You!” It is based on the story of those two discouraged disciples from Luke 24 and what Jesus said that caused their “hearts to burn!”

That’s what we all need, a good case of spiritual heartburn! Having had a bad case of physical heartburn the other day (too many peppers with my tuna sandwich), I definitely prefer the spiritual kind.

Easter, of course, is the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead. The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead changed everything. His followers went from being a group of ragtag fisherman, tax collectors, and zealots to being courageous preachers who literally turned their world upside down.

All of the apostles, with the exception of John, also died the death of a martyr. Surely, if the resurrection were not true, as some would claim, you would think that at least one of them would have broken ranks and said, “It was all a hoax. We made it up!”

But not one of them did, because they could not deny what had transformed their lives.

So wherever you are, make sure you go to church on Sunday and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. And try to take a “CEO” with you if you can. You know, CEO: one of those people who go to church on Christmas and Easter Only!

God bless you all.

Greg

    Dear Pastor Greg,
My family & I were at the 5:45a.m. service on Easter Sunday ~ and it was GREAT!! The entire service was everything that I hoped it would be. But, what touched me the most, was when you told us that we had walked in from the dark and now were leaving into the light! The expression on your face was priceless! I will carry that with me forever. Thank you for sharing your heart with us all.

    Hi Greg,
I watched the 1st & 2nd services Easter morning before going to church. What a blessing. Are ya’ll gonna publish the music? especially “The heart that burns for You.” I would love to get a copy of that so my pastor could hear it. He’s an old cowboy,
(a real cowboy), they still ride the range working cattle out here. I dont think he’s ever even seen the internet. Great job on the services, It was fun being there, even though I was 300 miles away. Isn’t the internet great?

    God bless you,
    Colleen

Listened to your message this morning online 3rd service. It really ministered to me and my wife. It was a little different from the usual message of the steps to the cross, the crowd, the 7 statements, etc. Enjoyed this perspective on Easter. I do have one question, who actually crucified Christ? Was it the Romans, as i have always believed, or was it the Jewish people?

Happy Birthday Jonathan. I can relate to this age as my son will be turning 22 this year also. Nice picture of you and your niece Stella, who i can also relate to, as i have a grandaughter age 2. God Bless you and your entire family.

Thank you so much for today’s wonderful message. I love how straightforward you are. Far too many churches water down the Bible.

I’m only 21, but in my life so far I’ve moved 15 times and lived in 13 different cities and 6 different states. I can honestly say that out off all the churches I’ve gone to, Harvest is my favorite.

    Hey Greg,

First off I would like to thank you for your Obedience to God… He has used you to encourage me in some of my darkest hours. I watched your Easter Service online…Love the streaming. I also listen to your radio show here in sacramento or catch the podcast when miss the show… I have a request if at some point you would have like a Q&A with Greg Laurie… either on line or on your radio broadcast where we can ask you questions we may have.

Thank you again and God Bless you,
    Jeff

It’s hard for me to imagine how the apostle must have felt as they watched Jesus Christ died on the cross. They followed Him and believed every word He spoke to them. They must have asked each other ” now what?” The only thing that could come close to it for me was when my father past away when I was a teen age girl at 13. I was bewildered and sad. I asked myself “now what will happen from here?” I was afraid. Five years later, I met Jesus Christ thro’ a campus ministry. He became my Heavenly Father from then on. Praise God for the resurection. It is thro’ it that we have eternal hope in Christ and God becomes our heavenly Father.

Pastor Greg, I am excited to hear about the new projects (your autobiography) that you are working on and look forward to reading myself. I have heard your testimony but not entirely I don’t think. I’m sure it will be inspiring! Thanks for all you do and for being a true teacher of The Word we can count on!

Our Easter Day weather will include sun, with the temperatures around 58 for the high. We keep swinging back and forth between winter and spring here where I am in NC.

    Greg,

I’ve been a parishioner at Harvest for the last three years. Your radio program “A New Beginning” changed my view of the world around me and brought me back to my roots as a Christian, yes, I realized I was a prodigal daughter… the love and life that I have felt inside the arms at Harvest has been more than I could have ever prayed for. In the three years that I have attended Harvest I have been diagnosed with and survived cancer as well as many other personal trials. Without being led to Harvest, and you and the pastoral team there, I am sure that I would not have built the faith that has helped me not only endure and persevere, but move forward and stay on the path that God has set before me. Thank you~
